Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s annual gala, The Butterfly Ball, is our organization’s largest fundraising event of the year. LBBC supporters come together to help raise the awareness and funds that allow us to fulfill our mission of empowering all women affected by breast cancer to live as long as possible with the best quality of life. Over 500 guests helped raise over $500,000 on Saturday, November 12 at our amazing Club 20 venue, PECHE at Sherman Mills.
This year, we celebrated our 20th anniversary by introducing a year-long celebration at our re-invented Butterfly Ball: Club 20. Donna Noce, president of the event's presenting sponsor White House | Black Market, served as mistress of ceremonies. We recognized 20 years of LBBC volunteer leadership by presenting the Going Beyond Awards to all of our organization’s board chairs: Ann Ricksecker, Mark Plamondon, Lynn Marks, Mit Joyner and Lisa Bayard.
The Founder’s Award was presented to Jean Sachs, MSS, MLSP, CEO of LBBC. The presentation of this award served as an emotional climax for the evening as Jean reflected on the impact her mother Romayne – who passed away in late 2010 – had made on her both personally and professionally. In addition to leading a talented staff who work tirelessly on behalf of women affected by breast cancer, Jean was also recognized for growing LBBC’s annual budget from $100,000 to more than $3 million.
Nine live auction items including an African safari, a fabulous trip to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City and a private tour and tasting at the Swanson Family Vineyard as well as a silent auction featuring over 100 items helped LBBC raise over $100,000. The grand prize drawing featured a sparkling bracelet designed with over 200 diamonds from Goveberg Jewelers’ Signature Collection and a one-night stay for three couples at the Loews Philadelphia hotel.
The event's co-chairs featured community entrepreneurs and medical professionals including Maureen & Nathan Doron, Karen & Christopher Gagnier, David Hall & Creg Oosterhart, Jennifer & Albert Simmons and Maria & Ken Pollack. The co-chairs worked tirelessly to create an amazing, club-like atmosphere at PECHE at Sherman Mills, where everyone in attendance was a VIP. A dazzling transformation was created by renowned Philadelphia designer Brian Kappra of Evantine Design and highlighted by the amazing tapas-styled culinary creations of caterers Peachtree & Ward. The evening concluded with dancing to the sounds of Philadelphia’s favorite DJ Jerry Blavat, the Geator with the Heater!
