Spring 2013

Our cover story focuses on findings from ATLAS, a large international study recently presented at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium that shows the well-established benefits of tamoxifen treatment for estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer are increased when the therapy is given for 10 years instead of the standard five. Learn about the history of tamoxifen treatment, how it has changed and new news on tamoxifen treatment since the 1990s.

Understand what it means to be a long-term survivor for women six or more years from a breast cancer diagnosis. Explore how viewpoints and values may change, medical issues that may impact quality of life and health decisions, and how long-term survivors are followed differently by healthcare teams than women who have not been diagnosed.

Vernell Kelly shares her story about how she supported loved ones, learned how to accept support for herself and became active in making African-American women aware of their risk after a breast cancer diagnosis.
