PHILADELPHIA — June 29, 2010 — This summer the heat isn’t the only reason for the long lines at the local Perkasie Square Rita’s Water Ice location. The delicious and flavor-filled products sold at the popular icy-stand will do more than just provide a temporary relief from the grueling heat. Rita’s of Perkasie is hosting a Celebrity Scoop Event and donating a percentage of the proceeds to Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC), a gesture that will help the nonprofit organization continue its mission to empower all women affected by breast cancer.

The Celebrity Scoop Event, to take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010, will feature NBC 10’s investigative reporter, Lu Ann Cahn, as the celebrity scooper. Cahn, also a breast cancer survivor, is a long-time supporter of LBBC and recently served as honorary chair of the organization’s annual yoga event, Yoga Unites for Living Beyond Breast Cancer, which raised more than $200,000. The donations from the yoga event and the percentage of the proceeds from Rita’s Water Ice will help LBBC to continue to provide education and support programs to women and families affected by breast cancer at little or no cost.

"We are honored to have the steadfast support of our regional constituency, which continues to raise funds and awareness for women affected by breast cancer," said Jean Sachs, MSS, MLSP, chief executive officer of LBBC. "Proceeds of these events help us fulfill our mission of empowering all women affected by breast cancer to live as long as possible with the best quality of life."

LBBC follows a mission that is geared toward promoting the best quality of life for all women affected by breast cancer. "RITAS" is an acronym for respect, integrity, trust, accountability, and service. These are objectives that reflect LBBC’s mission and commitment to all women affected by breast cancer.

"As a recent breast cancer survivor myself, I understand how critical a role support and education play in going through the process. The support that I received from LBBC was one of the key elements that helped me through the ordeal. This event is to celebrate life and to educate people about LBBC and the wonderful work that they do," said Lisa Feldman, the coordinator of this fundraising opportunity.

Rita’s of Perkasie is located in Perkasie Square at 505 Constitution Avenue. As the staff at Rita’s promises to provide their guests with valued, carefree service, they also realize that their customers are looking for a way to escape the pressures of life.
