Advanced Breast Cancer Treatment Update: Medical and Quality-of-Life News

10/14/2009

Speaker: William J. Gradishar, MD, FACP

Understand recent breakthrough therapies for metastatic, or stage IV, breast cancer. Learn about clinical trials that show how a new class of treatments called poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors can benefit women with triple-negative breast cancer and cancer caused by mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA 2 gene; the use of bisphosphonates, or bone-building or bone-strengthening pills, for bone metastases; and medicines such as bevacizumab (Avastin) that target blood vessel growth. You will learn why some cancers respond to treatments while others do not, and when it is important to receive medicines in a certain order.
