Andrea L. Cheville, MD, MSCE
Dr. Cheville is senior associate consultant in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Cheville's training emphasized pain management, symptom control and functional preservation in all stages of cancer. In 1999 Dr. Cheville accepted the University of Pennsylvania Health System's invitation to develop a Cancer Rehabilitation and Lymphedema Program. During the seven years of her directorship, the program expanded dramatically in clinical and research prominence to become one of the most recognized in the country. Dr. Cheville joined the Mayo Clinic in 2006 to pursue her research in breast cancer-related lymphedema, which focuses on protecting the lymphatic system during primary breast cancer treatment and enhancing its innate capacity to heal.
Dr. Cheville has written and lectured extensively on these topics as well as on clinical lymphedema practice. She is a long-standing board member of the Lymphology Association of North America and the National Lymphedema Network's Medical Advisory Committee. Dr. Cheville hopes that we will eliminate breast cancer-related lymphedema within the next decade.
