Claire Spera was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer at age 27 in February 2014. She had chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy and radiation therapy. Claire is a native Californian (from Santa Barbara originally), and has lived in Austin, Texas for nearly 7 years. She currently works full time as the director of communications and patient care coordinator for the plastic surgeon who did her breast reconstruction. On nights and weekends, Claire is a flamenco teacher and performer, and a freelance journalist for several publications in Texas.
