Elizabeth Fitzgerald

Clayton, North Carolina

Liz Fitzgerald was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. Just 3 weeks earlier, she was notified that her position as human resources director for a Raleigh, North Carolina manufacturer was being eliminated.  She researched stories of others with breast cancer and started to understand the resilience and strength of the breast cancer community.

Liz challenged herself to find ways that her story and experience might help others going through job loss amid a cancer diagnosis. She also looked hard at the stress in her pre-cancer life and dedicated herself to a healthier lifestyle.

Through Raleigh’s Duke Hospital, Liz presented seminars for people with cancer on topics such as building your narrative, creative job searching, the importance of your presentation and handling tough questions in practice interviews.

During this time, she studied for and received her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification and began planning for a new career blending her HR expertise with the physical and mental benefits gained in yoga practice.  Her niece introduced her to Philadelphia’s Yoga on the Steps in 2015 (now called Reach & Raise Philadelphia) and this year’s Reach and Raise fundraiser.  Liz is thrilled to become part of the LBBC community.
