Patricia Jefferies-McDowell was diagnosed shortly after her retirement in August 2001. A 67-year-old resident of California, she is an involved advocate, serving as part of Kaiser Permanente’s breast cancer outreach programs for over 12 years and helping carry out the missions of other breast cancer organizations as well.
Patricia says, “I believe my positive attitude, unwavering faith, and the people I chose to surround myself with encouraged me to the fight this dreaded disease. All of these volunteer experiences have proven to be a wonderful way of life in my retirement. I am fulfilling my purpose, I am a voice of hope and I prove anyone can participate in the fight against breast cancer while making a difference in their community.”
In her spare time Patricia’s biggest joy, however, is being a grandmother to three amazing granddaughters.
