Internships

In order to provide college students with hands-on experience in the activities of a nonprofit, we periodically offer unpaid internship positions. Please contact us for more information. The following internships are currently available:

Communications Intern

Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering all women affected by breast cancer to live as long as possible with the best quality of life, is looking for an intern to join our busy communications department and assist with a range of projects. This is a part-time unpaid position with a weekly commitment of 15-20 hours for a minimum of 12 weeks; starting and ending dates are flexible. This position reports to the communications specialist.

Desired Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Third or fourth-year student majoring in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, writing or related concentration, or recent graduates with a degree in any of the above are encouraged to apply. May receive academic credit.
  • Strong writing, research and communication skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work well under deadline pressure
  • Public relations experience or abilities a plus
  • Interest in health communications, women’s issues and/or the nonprofit sector a plus
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Desire to learn
  • Willingness and ability to work in team-oriented setting

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work assignments are flexible and can be structured to satisfy educational requirements at LBBC’s discretion. Depending on skills and interests, intern projects may include:

Writing:

  • Write calendar listings, press releases and/or media advisories for education and fundraising events
  • Research and write event listings, news items, survivor profiles and/or volunteer profiles for lbbc.org
  • Write auction item descriptions for LBBC’s annual gala
  • Assist with other writing tasks as requested

Website and Research:

  • Assist communications specialist with archiving of old news items, database backup and other web content management issues
  • Post conference transcripts to lbbc.org
  • Research website links and make agreements with other organizations

Administrative/Database:

  • Update and maintain Press Kits and Clip File
  • Create press lists and send calendar listings, press releases and media advisories via Cision (LBBC’s media database)
  • Do follow-up calls to reporters
  • Attend meetings or events as requested
