Insight, Summer 2017

The cover story of the summer 2017 issue of Insight explores how a mood or anxiety disorder can affect your experience with breast cancer. It is common to face breast cancer and a mood or anxiety disorder at the same time, and with proper care and coordination between your providers, you can learn to handle both issues. Through interviews with people who have had breast cancer and mood or anxiety disorders, and with medical experts, including psychologist Pamela Ginsberg, PhD, and oncologist Ruth Oratz, MD, FACP, this article sheds a light on how common a situation this is and provides practical tips for getting the care you need.

Another article, called "Inherited Risk: Genetic Testing Can Bring Answers, and New Questions" provides information about what genetic testing is and how it could affect your treatment.

This issue also features an ode to LBBC's fantastic volunteers, specifically the seven people and organizations to whom we recently gave volunteer awards to recognize them for their service.

Insight's "Giving" section tells the story of a painting that was commissioned to be auctioned at LBBC's 25th Anniversary Butterfly Ball, held last fall. The painting raised money while honoring a longtime LBBC volunteer. This section also details our partnership with cosmetics company Urban Decay, whose day of giving raised more than $60,000 for Living Beyond Breast Cancer; and highlights an annual concert that benefits LBBC.
