FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 30, 2007 – Conshohocken, PA – Women affected by breast cancer are invited to attend Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s next networking meeting, "Nutrition for the New Year: Managing Weight and Nutrition Through Diagnosis and Beyond,"

on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Philadelphia Marriott West in West Conshohocken. Debra DeMille, MS, RD, LDN, of the Joan Karnell Cancer Center at Pennsylvania Hospital will discuss the benefits of adequate nutrition during and beyond treatment and will answer questions about nutrition and fitness.

Some breast cancer treatments can weaken the immune system and prompt a number of side effects, including fatigue and nausea. Previous studies have shown that nutritious foods can lessen these side effects and help women’s bodies stay strong to fight infection. Healthy eating and exercise also can reduce the risk of some hormone-sensitive breast cancers returning because estrogen is stored in fat.

Ms. DeMille will help women understand how to use eating strategies and exercise to maintain weight and well-being during treatment, manage side effects and reclaim their bodies after treatment. She also will discuss nutritional needs of families affected by breast cancer, strategies for adopting healthier eating habits, healthful eating and workout tips to reduce the risk of developing a new or recurrent breast cancer.

Ms. DeMille is an oncology nutrition counselor at the Joan Karnell Cancer Center at Pennsylvania Hospital. She shows people affected by cancer and their partners how to use nutrition to enhance the benefits of treatment and reduce side effects. She also develops and implements educational programs based on complementary and alternative nutritional therapies.

A light dinner and refreshments will be available at this networking event, and on-site parking is available for a $3 fee. To register for this free event, visit Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s website at www.lbbc.org or call the office at (610) 645-4567.
