Community Connector

Thank you for putting this program together to provide those with a desire and passion to serve the breast cancer community. The training gave me the confidence that I can easily accomplish my goals while making a distinct impact in my community.

Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s Community Connector program provides the tools and training to help volunteers use their personal breast cancer experience to make a difference in their community. The Community Connector program engages volunteers across the country to support our mission of connecting people to trusted breast cancer information and a community of support. If you’re looking to make a difference in the lives of your neighbors and fellow members of your community, this program is for you.

Learn more about our Community Connectors

While anyone interested in the Community Connector Program can apply, this opportunity is best-suited for those personally affected by breast cancer and/or those looking to connect others to LBBC's trusted information and community of support. Because we are looking to create diversity within the program, we're especially interested in finding people who are:

  • Personally affected by breast cancer regardless of age or stage of diagnosis, including women diagnosed with breast cancer under age 45 and over age 65
  • Caregivers
  • Interested in making a difference in the breast cancer community
  • From diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds
  • From differing geographic locations within the United States
  • Knowledgeable about in-person and virtual communities
  • Able to access a computer and the Internet

We will consider every application we receive, but it's important for us to learn all we can about those who apply. Applicants should provide information detailing their:

  • Presence in their community
  • Ideas about introducing LBBC resources to the areas where they live or work
  • Plans on how they could enlist friends, family and colleagues to support their efforts
  • Activity on social media
  • Thoughts on how to build momentum and enthusiasm among those they are educating

Roles and Responsibilities

The role of a Community Connector is to act as an LBBC ambassador. It's important for us to make sure our Community Connectors feel comfortable in that position and part of the LBBC team.  That's why we've designed an ongoing training and continuing education calendar to keep our volunteers aware of everything LBBC has to offer and what we've got planned. To accomplish this, those accepted into the program will be expected to:

  • Serve a minimum two-year term
  • Define and accomplish 3 approved activities (education/promotion/fundraising) per year
  • Raise a recommended $1,000 annually for LBBC
  • Attend a mandatory training in August 2018 at LBBC's headquarters in Philadelphia, PA
  • Commit to at least 6-12 hours per month depending on agreed upon activities
  • Share information about LBBC by distributing materials throughout their community
  • Distribute LBBC materials to healthcare providers, support groups and others in need of resources
  • Submit activity reports to LBBC
  • Participate in coaching and continuing education conference calls

LBBC will hold one mandatory training for volunteers in August 2018. Reimbursement is available to cover some costs incurred attending the training.

Items eligible for reimbursement include:

  • Costs incurred for primary travel to the training (airfare, train, bus or car)

Items LBBC will pay directly:

  • Three nights in a hotel room shared with another Community Connector (for those living more than 40 miles from the training location)
  • Meals associated with the training

Please note that reimbursements are provided to offset the cost of traveling to the conference and Community Connector training, and may not cover all expenses.

Applications for the 2018 Community Connector Leadership Volunteer opportunity will open on March 5, 2018.
