Surgeryinfo-icon is a local therapyinfo-icon used to treat breast cancer. It reduces the risk for local recurrenceinfo-icon, a return of the cancer to the treated areas of the breast or lymphinfo-icon nodes. Almost everyone diagnosed with early-stage breast cancerinfo-icon has some surgery. Sometimes, people diagnosed with metastaticinfo-icon breast cancer have surgery, too.

In some cases, you may have a choice about surgery. Your main decision then is whether you want to preserve your breast or have the entire breast removed. You can also decide whether to have breast reconstructioninfo-icon, surgery to rebuild your breast or breasts.
