Dr. Kara Maxwell is a physician-scientist with an interest in breast cancer genetics. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in molecular and cellular biology from The Rockefeller University and her Medical Degree from Cornell University. She did her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital's Columbia University campus. She then completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology and an advanced fellowship in Cancer Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Maxwell is board certified in Medical Oncology and is currently an Instructor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania where she practices in cancer risk evaluation.  Her major area of research interest is in the mechanisms of cancer development in individuals at high risk of breast cancer.  In addition, she is interested in the translation of big data generated by next generation sequencing technology into useable information in the clinical practice of cancer risk evaluation.
