Minetta C. Liu, MD, is a consultant and chair of research in the department of oncology with a secondary appointment in the department of laboratory medicine and pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She is a professor of oncology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. In addition, she is an associate medical director in the department of development and medical director for the office of specialty collaborations and contracts.

As a physician and researcher, Dr. Liu specializes in breast medical oncology and the latest advances in clinical and lab-based cancer research. She is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through access to novel therapeutic agents and molecular diagnostic tools. Her lab efforts focus on expanding the availability and clinical applications of circulating blood-based biomarker tests in solid tumor cancers. Her research is funded by the National Cancer Institute, the Department of Defense, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She leads several national and international studies.

In addition to her research, Dr. Liu has co-authored many articles published in medical journals, and serves as a reviewer and on editorial boards for several medical and scientific journals. She has been an invited scientific reviewer for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program. Dr. Liu also serves as co-chair of the Breast Cancer Pathology Disease Oriented Group; leader of the Circulating Tumor Cell and Cell Free DNA Working Group; and Institutional Principal Investigator for the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium.

In recognition of her work, Dr. Liu has received teaching awards and is listed as an honored member in America’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals, the Consumers’ Research Council of America’s Top Physicians, Best Doctors in America, and Marquis’ Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. She received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
