Forward4Tobi Helps People Get to 2020 Conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer

March 2, 2020

UPDATED: The Living Beyond Breast Cancer team has decided to postpone the 2020 Conference on Metastaticinfo-icon Breast Cancer, scheduled for April 17-19, 2020, in Philadelphia, because of the coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak. We are deeply saddened, but our decision was guided by our highest priority – protecting the health and safety of our attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and staff.

Our friends at Forward4Tobi are committed to supporting the metastatic community through LBBC. We will collaborate to find the best ways to serve you in light of changes to the 2020 Conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer. Stay tuned!

The Forward4Tobi Foundation is funding travel grants to help people affected by breast cancer get to the 2020 LBBC Conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer in Philadelphia April 17 to 19. National conferences are valuable experiences to find information and community, but not everyone can afford to get to these events. Thanks to Forward4Tobi,  for those wishing to attend the conference can apply for travel grants in order to lessen or remove the financial hurdle.

Forward4Tobi is a nonprofit started in 2013 to honor the memory of Tobi Lauren Klonecki, a wife and mother of two young boys, who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancerinfo-icon at the age of 38. Tobi realized how lucky she was to have the means to pay medical expenses, childcare, and other daily needs of women living with breast cancer. After her death, Tobi’s friends and family came together to create Forward4Tobi. Forward4Tobi is run entirely by volunteers, which allows 98 percent of donations to go directly into the pockets of people living with breast cancer. Operating with only volunteers helps Forward4Tobi uphold their mission to help women with breast cancer live a better quality of lifeinfo-icon by easing their financial burden.

Forward4Tobi and Living Beyond Breast Cancer

Forward4Tobi’s mission is what makes them such a great partner of the LBBC Conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer. Since attending the conference as exhibitors, Forward4Tobi saw the enormous impact of the conference on attendees, both with helpful information and the wonderful community of support. Forward4Tobi wanted to help more women experience the conference for themselves. Over the last several years, Forward4Tobi sent hundreds of women to the conference thanks to their generous donations in the form of travel grants, and it has meant so much to the women who would not have been there without them.

I feel my life has been greatly enriched by what I have learned this weekend, by stories I have heard and by people I have met,” one woman shared. “I want to thank the organizers and the sponsors for a job well done. I want to especially thank those responsible for my travel grant. I would not have been able to participate in any of these activities without the grant. It made all the difference.

“I really enjoyed the conference, especially since I was granted a travel grant to attend,” another woman shared. “I loved the connections I made, especially with the folks in my general area. Thanks for all you do to connect us together!”

2020 Conference Highlights

With exciting keynotes, including Lisa A. Carey MD, FASCO, and Kate Pickert, author of Radical: The Science, Culture, and History of Breast Cancer in America, as well as breakout sessions focused on subtypes, self-care, and more, this year’s conference offers valuable information and support for women affected by metastatic breast cancer. In addition to keynotes and sessions there will also be plenty of time to socialize, reflect, and restore throughout the weekend.

“It was fantastic,” one woman shared. “It was my first time and I am very happy I [came]. I no longer feel alone. I was depressed when I got there but left with hope and new friends.”

LBBC is very grateful for our partnership with Forward4Tobi, which helps us achieve our vision of a world where no one impacted by breast cancer feels uninformed or alone. We are hopeful that, for many travel grant recipients, this conference serves as a starting point for bonds that will last a lifetime.
