Insight, Winter 2017/2018

Clinical trials are studies carried out in people to learn more about diseases, like breast cancer, and their treatments. But only 3 percent of adults with a cancer diagnosis participate in clinical trials. Learn more about clinical trials from the cover story of the winter 2017/2018 issue of Insight. The story features interviews with people who have participated in clinical trials, and with oncologist Lawrence Wickerham, MD, and BreastCancerTrials.org program director Elly Cohen, PhD.

Another article, called "Breast Cancer Anniversaries: Finding What Works for You," explores how different people mark cancer-related milestones or anniversaries and how to talk to your loved ones about these anniversaries.

This issue also features an article by Sophia K-Franklin, an LBBC Community Connector who developed breast cancer while pregnant. Sophia shares how her family, including her newborn daughter, helped her get through this difficult time.

Insight's "Giving" section features photos and a recap from LBBC's annual Butterfly Ball, which raised more than $950,000 in November. It also details our 10-year partnership with mineral makeup company jane iredale. And our DIY spotlight recognizes URBN, the parent company of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, BHLDN, Terrain and Vetri, for holding a staff "field day" that raised $1,800 for LBBC.
