Fitting In
Sometimes it can feel hard to relate to women who have different treatment options than you do. You may hear news that a new study shows huge benefits for women with breast cancer but find out the information doesn’t apply to you. Or while your friends with hormone-sensitive breast cancer take comfort in taking hormonal therapy
, you can’t relate because those treatments are not meant for your diagnosis
. Your fear of recurrence
may seem intense or you may even feel isolated.
Here are some tips to cope with your feelings:
- Connect with others who share your diagnosis through your local hospital, clinic or cancer center. You may find support groups specific to women with triple-negative breast cancer
.
- Join the online message boards of the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.
- Call LBBC’s Breast Cancer Helpline to be matched with a woman who has been treated for triple-negative breast cancer
- Write in a journal or a blog to process and to share your story.
- Volunteer to meet others and to get support.
Remember, other women may have different, easier or more difficult times than you have had. Resist the temptation to compare your experiences to those of others.
