How Scientific Research is Addressing Metastatic Breast Cancer

This workshop provides insights into many questions about metastatic breast cancer (MBC) of interest to patients, their families and loved ones. Sessions draw from current research on the incidence and distribution of MBC in the population; what we know about why cancers spread, and funding of MBC research over time. Key questions include: How many people are living today with MBC? How many early stage breast cancer patients experience a recurrence, and how might we track recurrence in national registries? How can we learn more about MBC and how can patients get involved? Lastly, what advances in science and technology have enhanced our ability to study MBC at the cellular level that could ultimately lead to treatments that extend life and improve quality of life for people living with MBC.
