Carolyn Nickels was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in January of 2023.
She considers herself a late-bloomer, the fourth of five children, and is an optimist at heart. After a successful business career, Carolyn turned her attention to clinical research, where she has worked in various positions for the last 20 years. An adventurous spirit at heart, she has walked barefoot on hot coals, dived with sharks on the famous shipwrecks off the coast of North Carolina, and explored the bountiful marine life in the Sea of Cortez off Baja, California, where she fell in love with the sea lions she swam with every day. She is a devoted aunt to 13 nieces and nephews. Committed to advocating for patients, Carolyn hopes that telling her story will help educate and lessen the fear of others diagnosed with cancer.
