general_content

If you want to discover who you are as an advocate, learn how to raise awareness about metastatic breast cancer and connect with other people living with stage IV, LBBC’s Leadership Volunteer Hear My Voice Advocacy Program may be for you.

Through attending virtual training sessions, Hear My Voice Advocates will learn how to use their personal stories along with statistics and insights about metastatic breast cancer to increase awareness. You will also learn about the many resources LBBC has to help people in your community understand their diagnosis, make informed decisions, and get the support they need.

After completing the Hear My Voice training, past advocates have “raised their voice” about metastatic breast cancer through blogging and social media outreach, fundraising for LBBC programs to support those living with metastatic breast cancer, spoken about their experiences in their local communities, participated on research review boards, started new advocacy organizations, shared LBBC materials with healthcare providers, called for more funding for breast cancer research, and so much more.

Self-paced learning:

Some aspects of the training also include self-paced learning exercises. These exercises are foundational to the training, and you should expect to dedicate approximately 1-2 hours to completing them.

You must be able to attend ALL the live virtual sessions and complete the self-paced learning in order to be trained and activated as a Hear My Voice Advocate.

What resources will I need to successfully participate in the virtual training?

  • Full access to a computer or smart device - with video and microphone capabilities - for the full duration of training.
  • High speed internet connection.
  • Comfort with utilizing Zoom Meetings.

What are participants expected to do after completing the virtual training?

Each participant will be required to complete the following within their Hear My Voice volunteer commitment term which runs through March 31, 2027:

  • Work to connect others in their community to LBBC’s programs and services.
  • Develop and complete at least two individual activities in their community, either virtually or in person.
  • Connect Healthcare providers to LBBC resources.
  • Attend at least 3 check-in calls or continuing education programs during their active term.
  • Submit activity reports regularly throughout their active term to LBBC.
  • Receive ongoing technical support from LBBC experts, advocacy leaders, and peer support throughout their active term.
  • OPTIONAL IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITY: Travel to Philadelphia to attend Thriving Together: LBBC’s Conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer in April 2026 and meet in-person with other members of the 2026 Hear My Voice cohort.

Who is eligible for the program?

People diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer currently living in the United States or its territories.

Note: It is recommended that when you apply for the Hear My Voice program, you are between at least 6-12 months from a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis.

What is the optional opportunity to attend LBBC’s Annual Mets Conference?

The 2026 Hear My Voice program cohort will have the optional opportunity to travel to and attend LBBC’s annual Conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer in Philadelphia from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19. In addition to conference programming, there will also be:

  • An exclusive reception for the 2026 Hear My Voice cohort to meet each other in-person.
  • A reception for all LBBC Leadership Volunteers, providing an opportunity to meet Hear My Voice and Young Advocate alumni from past years.

Financial assistance for travel and lodging will be provided for those who are accepted and have completed virtual training as a 2026 Hear My Voice advocate. This is an optional opportunity and not a requirement of the 2026 Hear My Voice program.

What costs does LBBC cover?

Financial assistance will be provided as checks at the conclusion of the conference at the below levels as stipends based on distance from the conference location (Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing). A travel stipend aims to help offset some of the costs of attending the conference; however, it most likely will not cover all expenses.

  • $75: Those who live between 0-20 miles from the conference
  • $365: Those who live between 21-60 miles from the conference
  • $490: Those who live more than 61 miles from the conference and are located in CT, DE, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, and Washington, D.C.
  • $665: Those who live in all other states in the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska

As a 2026 Hear My Voice Advocate, you will also receive a conference fee waiver.

The above is designed to offset the cost of traveling and lodging for the conference. It will NOT cover all your expenses.

If you are accepted into the 2026 Hear My Voice program, you will NOT be eligible for a regular conference travel grant – you will only be able to receive financial assistance through the Hear My Voice Program. If you are accepted into the 2026 Hear My Voice program and were previously accepted for a conference travel grant, your conference travel grant will be removed.

How do I make my travel arrangements?

If you are accepted into the 2026 Hear My Voice program and choose to travel to the conference, you are responsible for reserving your travel and hotel lodging and making all necessary payments upfront. Trave stipend checks for 2026 Hear My Voice participants will be distributed at the conclusion of the conference

If for any reason you need to change or cancel your travel and hotel plans for the Thriving Together: LBBC’s Annual Conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer, it is your responsibility to change or cancel. Any financial penalties for travel or hotel will be your sole responsibility.
