MJ was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer in 2000, during the week of her 50th birthday.
Seventeen years later, a nurse practitioner in a survivor clinic recommended imaging studies since MJ had been having joint pain, and a lesion was found on her spine. She has been living with metastatic breast cancer since.
A few years ago. MJ retired from an encore career as a disaster relief worker for the federal government. In 2020, she trained as a Hear My Voice Metastatic Advocate with LBBC. She lives in Exton, Pennsylvania.
