Jean Hartford-Todd has been a child life specialist at the Duke Health System for over thirty-six years. She began working at Duke on the in-patient pediatric units in 1986 working with children who were hospitalized with various serious injuries and illnesses. In 1996 she began working with adult neuro-oncology patients focusing on the needs of children and teens who have a parent with brain cancer. In 2013 she joined the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program and expanded her services offering psycho-educational support services to all adult oncology patients treated at the Duke Cancer Institute related to the needs of children and teens in the family.
