In February 2018 she was diagnosed in her 30s with stage III triple-negative, metaplastic (rare sub type) breast cancer. She found out during her treatment that she had the BRCA2 gene mutation, which was a shock because there is no history of breast cancer in her family.
Her treatment plan consisted of a single mastectomy with lymph node removal, aggressive chemotherapy and radiation, and two preventative surgeries. She chose to have a delayed DIEP flap breast reconstruction and is currently in the process of finishing her breast tattoo.
Maja is a proud POC from Toronto and uses her experience to advocate for the breast cancer community and shares her journey to self-love and living in gratitude.
