In this together
LBBC caregiver initiative
With all the uncertainties that come with a breast cancer diagnosis, it’s comforting and critical to have the unwavering support of caregivers. Living Beyond Breast Cancer understands the importance of caregivers and is dedicated to sharing their stories, providing support, and honoring the selfless acts of compassion and unconditional love they show to their loved ones diagnosed with breast cancer.
In 2022, LBBC honored a group of caregivers with the Abby Lessack Caregiver Award. The award was inspired by Amy Lessack, LBBC board member and longtime volunteer, who, in the weeks before she passed away from metastatic breast cancer, approached LBBC with a request to honor her sister Abby who was her caregiver. Amy’s wish was to celebrate and elevate the often-unrecognized contributions of caregivers like her sister, whose stories need to be told.
In this together: LBBC caregiver initiative is a part of LBBC’s continued commitment to share caregiver stories, provide support, and honor the selfless acts of compassion and unconditional love they show to their loved ones diagnosed with breast cancer.
This year, we asked members of our community to share a photo and three words to describe their caregivers. We received many heartfelt tributes honoring the “selfless”, “patient”, and “compassionate” caregivers in their lives. All submissions were compiled in a tribute slideshow.
Thank you to all those who submitted tributes. Join us in celebrating caregivers all month long, by sharing your photo and three words on social media and tagging LBBC.
Thank you to our 2023 sponsors and donors
Special thanks to Amy's family
