Julie Larson, LCSW, is a psychotherapist in New York City, where she works primarily with people under age 40 around issues of wellness, loss and life transitions.
Prior to establishing her private practice, Ms. Larson was the young adult program director at CancerCare for six years In this position, she developed a national program of age-specific support services and educational materials focused on the unique issues faced by young adults impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
Ms. Larson is a member of the multidisciplinary steering committee of the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance, a coalition of organizations working on national initiatives to improve the survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer. She was a panelist at the 2007 New Jersey public forum, “Addressing the Unmet Needs of Young Adults with Cancer,” and has been a professional educator/presenter for both AOSW and APOS. She consults with a number of organizations on strategies to improve their young adult programming and has been featured in various publications including SELF Magazine’s breast cancer handbook for October 2006, The Crazy Sexy Cancer: Survival Guide, Everything Changes: The Insider’s Guide to Cancer in Your 20s and 30s and a number of survivor blogs.
