Jen is author of Running: A Love Story (a Philadelphia Inquirer top book of 2016) and The Jersey Shore: Atlantic City to Cape May. She is a graduate of the University of Tampa and earned her master’s degree from Rutgers University-Camden. She lives in Audubon, N.J. with Annie Oakley Tater Tot, a mutt of indeterminate origin, and is training for her third ultramarathon.

More than a feeling: A surgical resident chooses nerve repair to regain breast sensation after mastectomy

To restore as much sensory nerve function in her breasts as possible, surgical resident Nicole Beck Clifford underwent a procedure known as Resensation® as part of her mastectomy and reconstruction. A year after her operation, she’s regained pain, touch, and temperature sensation across most of her breasts. She also is less anxious living without such a high breast cancer risk hanging over her head.
