Nikoo Kafi McGoldrick is a metastatic lobular breast cancer (ILC) thriver, advocate, and author dedicated to advancing research, expanding patient education, and supporting individuals living with metastatic breast cancer. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 and experienced a metastatic recurrence in 2022, an experience that has deepened her commitment to patient-centered advocacy and equitable care for those living with metastatic disease.
Nikoo volunteers with numerous national organizations, including the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance, METAvivor, Project Life, Little Pink Houses of Hope, and Sharsheret. Through mentoring, outreach, and education, she works to foster inclusion and improve patient-centered care.
Nikoo is a frequent speaker and contributor in academic and research settings, including the International ILC Symposium and UC San Diego’s Sanford Stem Cell Institute MIND Series. She also provides patient perspective to UCSD’s ONEMIND program and an AI-Driven Consent Simplification Study at UCLA.
Originally trained as a mechanical engineer, Nikoo is also a highly accomplished novelist. She has co-authored more than 50 works of fiction and nonfiction with her husband over three decades and is a USA Today bestselling author with appearances on the New York Times extended-bestseller list. Her work has been traditionally published and widely translated worldwide. Through writing, speaking, and storytelling, Nikoo brings clarity, humanity, and emotional insight to complex medical experiences, advocating for more compassionate, patient-driven care.
