Begin silicone use only once your incision is fully closed and your surgeon has given you the go-ahead.

Scar Care Tips for Survivors

• Scar management supports long-term confidence. Studies show that scar appearance can affect body image, self-esteem, and satisfaction after surgery. Patients often feel scars influence their recovery experience just as much as surgical outcome
• Early, consistent care makes a difference. Silicone therapy, when used consistently over weeks to months, can reduce redness, thickness, and discomfort while improving flexibility
• Emotional healing matters too. Scars can trigger memories of treatment and affect relationships or confidence. Addressing them proactively can help restore normalcy and improve quality of life.
• Talk with your team. Your surgeon and nurses can help tailor scar care to your unique surgery and recovery plan.

When to use silicone

✔️ Begin around 2–3 weeks post-op (once incision is closed and no scabs remain).

✔️ Wear silicone 12–24 hours per day for 8–12+ weeks.

✔️ Wash skin and strip daily; replace strips when tack fades.

✔️ Do not use on open wounds. Stop and contact your care team if irritation occurs.

Surgery types & scar care

1. Simple / Double Mastectomy

Straight or curved scar across the chest.

• Use 2×8 strips; add a 1×6 strip for shorter segments.
• Apply Silagen Pure Gel at edges.

2. Implant / Nipple- or Skin-Sparing Mastectomy

Short crease incision under the breast.

• Use 1×6 strip along the fold; 1×3 strip for ports or tails.
• Add 2×8 strip if incision is longer; Silagen Pure for edges.

3. TRAM / DIEP (Flap Reconstruction)

Oval scar on the breast plus hip-to-hip abdominal scar.

• Breast: 1×6 strip.
• Abdomen: 2×18 strips end-to-end (or 2×24 if longer).
• Silagen Pure Gel around umbilicus and contours.
