Marie Wood, MD, FACP, FASCO, earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1985. She interned at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, and completed her residency at the University of Utah Medical Center in 1988, followed by a fellowship at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Wood returned to the University of Colorado in 2022 as professor of medicine after 25 years at the University of Vermont. She serves as medical director of the Hereditary Cancer Program.
An active clinician and researcher, Dr. Wood focuses her clinical work on caring for people diagnosed with or at risk for breast cancer. Her research explores breast cancer biomarkers and mammographic breast density, including how density relates to breast cancer risk factors, other biomarkers, and change after interventions. She also studies cancer genetics, emphasizing the use of family history in identifying risk and developing new models for cancer genetic counseling and testing.
Dr. Wood has been part of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology cooperative group for more than 20 years, currently serving as co-chair of the Alliance Prevention Committee and deputy director for the Alliance Cancer Control Program. She is also a member of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Prevention Central Institutional Review Board and Cancer Prevention Steering Committee.
