Melissa’s commitment to oncology care grew from personal experience after losing both her father and brother to cancer. Inspired by the challenges her family faced, including her brother’s experience with lymphedema, she pursued advanced training in oncology massage at MD Anderson Cancer Center and specialized training in manual lymphatic drainage and complete decongestive therapy.

As founder of Lymphedema & Integrative Oncology Services, Melissa provides long-term lymphedema management, care for radiation-induced fibrosis, and oncology massage for people during and after cancer treatment. Her clinic serves more than 125 patients and works closely with regional hospital lymphedema programs to provide continuity of care after discharge from acute therapy services.

Melissa has helped develop hospital-based wellness programs, trained healthcare professionals, and contributed to the advancement of national standards in oncology massage. Most notably, she served on the Society for Oncology Massage specialty task force that helped develop guidelines and the national certification examination for the 100-hour Oncology Massage Specialty Certificate.

Melissa advocates for compassionate, evidence-informed integrative cancer care that supports quality of life and helps people manage symptoms. She regularly educates healthcare providers, cancer support groups, and community organizations about oncology massage and lymphedema care.

When she is not treating patients or teaching, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, relaxing on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, and enjoying nature with her beloved golden retrievers, one of whom is a certified therapy dog.
