Drawing from both her professional background and personal breast cancer journey, Dr. Fowler has worked to close gaps in cancer-related care and services related to mental health, survivorship, and emotional well-being. In 2021, she led the development and implementation of trauma-informed support services, including individual counseling, support groups, and educational workshops for people with breast cancer and caregivers at the TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, Ga.

Dr. Fowler brings extensive public health leadership, having served as a behavioral and health scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). She is a former professor at Clark Atlantic University and has served as the principal and co-investigator on research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Dell Corporation. Her work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations, including a 2023 co-authored article on racial disparity in breast cancer survivorship published in the Journal of Cancer Survivorship.

In recognition of her advocacy and impact, Dr. Fowler received the 2025 Phillip Street Cancer Community Champion award through the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (CORE). Through her work, she continues to promote trauma-informed approaches as essential, effective care for people diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers.
