Neil M. Iyengar, MD, is a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer. He practices at the Clifton campus of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Dr. Iyengar is co-director of the Breast Medical Oncology Program and director of Cancer Survivorship Services at Winship. He is also associate professor of hematology and medical oncology at Emory University School of Medicine.
As co-director of the Breast Medical Oncology Program, Dr. Iyengar leads the clinical trial portfolio and helps set the strategic direction for developing new treatments. As director of Cancer Survivorship Services, he leads the strategy, operations, and integration of survivorship care across Winship and Emory Healthcare. He oversees a comprehensive program that offers personalized wellness plans addressing needs such as exercise, nutrition, and supportive care. He also directs survivorship research initiatives and the implementation of evidence-based practices.
Dr. Iyengar earned his undergraduate and medical degrees through the accelerated program at the University of Illinois Chicago, graduating with the university’s highest honors. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Iyengar’s research focuses on improving metabolic health to reduce breast cancer risk and mortality. At Memorial Sloan Kettering, he developed and led the Healthy Living Program, an evidence-based survivorship model that creates personalized lifestyle plans for people during and after cancer treatment. His work has received recognition from several organizations, and his research has been supported by grants from the National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Conquer Cancer, and others.
