Sonya Reid, MD, MPH, is an associate professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center). Dr. Reid’s research focuses on young-onset and hereditary breast cancer, as well as racial disparities in breast cancer outcomes. Her work includes investigating genomic differences that may contribute to racial disparities in breast cancer survival.
Dr. Reid received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. award in recognition of her work to advance diversity, inclusion, and equity at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Clinically, she cares for breast cancer patients with a special interest in young-onset breast cancer.
In addition to her research and clinical work, Dr. Reid is the assistant director of community outreach and engagement at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. In this leadership role, she collaborates with institutional stakeholders to identify and address barriers to clinical trial participation, with a focus on improving access and enrollment on clinical trials across the cancer center.
